(The Star) Gambir, north Johor growth area

TANGKAK: Gambir will be developed into the new growth region for the northern part of Johor, said Gambir assemblyman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian had agreed to the proposal when he met him during a breaking fast event in Pagoh.

“We now need to identify a suitable site in Gambir to be developed into a new industrial park,” he said in his speech at the buka puasa event held at Masjid Jamek Bukit Gambir here.

Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP and the Home Minister, said the state government could acquire parts of land owned by big plantation companies for the project.

He said the industrial site would cater to the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for young entrepreneurs.

Muhyiddin said the industrial site would house food-based processing activities and non-food products for domestic and export markets.

“The project will lead to economic benefits for the local community, including creating many job opportunities for them,” he said.

Muhyiddin said Gambir also has the potential to be developed as the modern hub for agriculture and agro-based activities.

He said Gambir could produce more food, taking into account the many fruit and vegetables farms in the area.

“The country needs to reduce the cost of importing food items by growing more vegetables and fruits,” said Muhyiddin.
