(The Star) Jalan Alam Jaya turned into dual-carriage road

Kajang Municipal Council will expand Jalan Alam Jaya in Batu 9, Cheras, into a dual-carriage road at the cost of RM2mil in the first quarter of 2018.

Its president Mohd Sayuthi Bakar said at the council fullboard the project proposed two years ago was delayed due to lack of funds.

Councillor Syefura Othman said the single-carriage road was in dire need of expansion as it was heavily used by motorists who want to avoid tolls to get to Hulu Langat and Bandar Sungai Long.

She said the area was densely populated and would see more development in the future, so the expansion was needed before any development took place.

Mohd Sayuthi said seven restaurants, mostly in Balakong, have been sealed for operating without a licence. At the same time, action was taken against house owners who illegally converted their homes for business purposes.

“It’s been going on for a long time. We have issued so many compounds and advised owners but now we are taking a more serious approach so this does not continue,” he said.

A house in Taman Ikhlas in Bandar Sungai Long which was converted into a storage area for vegetables was sealed and had its items seized.
