(The Star) 16 sweet and savoury creations

Sometimes all we need to do is sit back and relax in the afternoon and enjoy a cup of tea with a selection of sweet and savoury treats.

At the Common Man Coffee Roasters (CMCR) in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, the selection of treats is something to look forward to if you are into afternoon tea.

CMCR barista Lam Wei Leong said the cafe has opted for a rotating menu of 16 sweet and savoury creations to tempt customers.

The afternoon tea set also offers servings of tea or coffee or free flow of a batch brew, ideally shared between two diners.

CMCR is known for its signature brews and each drink is tailored to the customer’s preference.

I ordered a cappuccino to my liking and it was perfect with the afternoon tea treats.

There were four sweet desserts — profiteroles stuffed with sesame custard, fresh scones with sweet jam and cream, sesame bagel with a dollop of sour cream, rich chocolate gateau and crispy honey oat biscuits with white chocolate.

Three savouries served alongside were juicy mini beef sliders, tangy chicken sausage roll and a unique dish hailing from the Philippines, chicken sisig on grilled pita with lime mayonnaise.

“Usually afternoon tea is made for those with a sweet tooth but we want to take it to the next level by adding more uncommon savoury items so it’s like having the best of both worlds while enjoying your afternoon tea or coffee,” Lam explained.

All of the sweets and savouries are made fresh upon order so it is best to make reservations.

The Anything but Common Tea Set is priced at RM75.40 for two.

It is available on Thursdays and Fridays, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
