(NST) M'sia strongest performing market in region: CIMB

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is one of the strongest performing markets in Asian region, said CIMB Group Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Aziz.

“We will continue to see the strengthening and stability in ringgit,” he said at a press conference after the CIMB Finance Forum 2017 on Belt and Road Initiative in Kuala Lumpur, today.

He added Malaysia’s market sentiment is positive in line with the better outlook and performance of 2017.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said Malaysia recorded a double-digit growth in the first five months this year from the trade particularly with countries like China.

“The latest figure is about 31.5 per cent based on the year-on-year trade growth comparison,” he said.

Wee added the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) was about 5.6 per cent in the first-quarter of 2017.

“I foresee the GDP in second-quarter this year should be able to achieve more than 5 per cent,” he said.
