(The Star) Retailer‘s new store its 276th in M’sia

Home improvement retailer Mr. DIY has opened its 276th store in Malaysia, further expanding its extensive store list.

The new store in Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur, serves the city centre populace with more than 20,000 product varieties across a display area of over 9,000sq ft (about 836.13 sq m).

Among its products are household, hardware, electrical, car accessories, toys, stationery, gifts, sports goods, as well as jewellery and cosmetics.

Mr. DIY senior branch manager Lawrence Lau said the store complemented the business of the Sungei Wang branch; these are the only two Mr DIY stores within the Kuala Lumpur Golden Triangle.

He said the store, open for more than two weeks now, was attracting a mix of foreign and local customers because of its strategic location in the city.

“As people start to get to know us here, sales are slowly picking up,” said Lau.

He added that customers were keeping a close watch on the retailer’s promotional activities as they have nationwide promotions every month.

“Each time, we would fix a certain product category for the promotion, and with each promotion, nearly 100 products will be offered on discount,” Lau said, adding that they wanted to stick to their tagline of “Always Low Prices”, and with that, they were striving to keep their products reasonably priced.

In terms of expansion plans in Malaysia, Mr. DIY area manager William Ng said they were targeting to have 350 stores nationwide by end of the year.

“Currently, Mr. DIY also has a presence in Thailand and Brunei, and we are looking to enter the Indonesian market within the year,” he said.

In celebration of the Berjaya Times Square store opening, the retailer gave away mystery gifts and umbrellas with purchases, while they also held a lucky draw with Mr. DIY cash vouchers as gifts over the weekend.
