(The Star) New bridge over Sg Kerian to spur economic growth

A bridge costing RM25.8mil will be built by the Penang government to connect Taman Victoria to Tanjung Berembang in the Nibong Tebal district.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the 360m bridge over Sungai Kerian would bring further development to the areas of Taman Victoria and Teluk Ipil as it would be more accessible to investors and tourists.

“The project carried out by the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) is now at 42% and scheduled to be completed on Jan 17, 2019.

“The existing bridge is unable to cope with the present traffic flow during peak hours. There is also another bridge across Sungai Kerian which is only accessible to motorcyclists and pedestrians,” he said before the groundbreaking ceremony at the site on Sunday.

Also present were Penang Deputy Chief Minister (I) Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, state assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, state Works, Utilities and Transportation Committee chairman Lim Hock Seng, Jawi assemblyman Soon Lip Chee, Nibong Tebal MP Datuk Mansor Othman, PDC general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar and Seberang Prai Municipal Council secretary Rozali Mohamud.

Guang Eng added that the new bridge had the potential to be an economic game changer as it would be a catalyst for development in these areas.
