(The Star) Major facelift for Miri beachfront

MIRI: The Marina Bay beach here will undergo a major beautification job to turn it into a family leisure-recreational hub and a tourist spot.

Miri City Council (MCC) had set aside RM5mil as initial budget to kickstart the project, said Miri mayor Adam Yii.

“The aim of our project is to turn Marina Bay into an attractive place for people to enjoy the shoreline’s scenic beauty.

“MCC wants to market Miri’s natural assets as tourism attractions and our beaches are our main assets.

“Miri and northern Sarawak have unrivalled beauty when it comes to natural assets like mountains, beaches, coral reefs, caves, jungles and rivers.

“At Marina Bay, we have pristine beach settings that we can further enhance to make the area more conducive for beach games, recreational walks, family gatherings and sunset watching,” he told StarMetro.

Yii said Tan Sri Adenan Satem gave Miri an allocation of RM10mil when he was chief minister.

“He wanted us to protect and conserve Miri’s natural beauty.

“We will use RM5mil to beautify Marina Bay,” he said.

The facelift will entail improvement on landscape, recreational facilities, footpaths and beach tracks as well as providing better public amenities.

The beachfront, which measures about three kilometres long, is a popular spot for jogging, beach games and watching sunset.
