(The Star) Direct connection

KUALA NERUS: Terengganu, in collaboration with low-cost carrier AirAsia, has succeeded in introducing direct flights from Johor Baru to Kuala Terengganu three times a week.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the memorandum of understanding was signed with AirAsia last month to introduce the direct flights.

“We made the right decision in collaborating with AirAsia because the airline has remained the world’s best low-cost carrier for nine consecutive years, beginning from 2009.

“AirAsia also boasts an extensive route network to over 120 destinations across 27 countries,” he said after welcoming AirAsia’s maiden flight from Johor Baru to Kuala Terengganu at the Sultan Mahmud Airport here.

Also present was AirAsia Berhad chief executive officer Aireen Omar.

Ahmad Razif said the direct flights would not only facilitate travel for Terengganu people living in Johor to return to their hometown, but also attract more tourists, especially from Singapore and the southern corridor to visit Terengganu.

Ahmad Razif said the Johor Baru-Kuala Terengganu flights are scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

“The flight will depart Johor Baru at 1.45pm and arrive in Kuala Terengganu at 2.50pm and depart Kuala Terengganu at 3.15pm before arriving in Johor Baru at 4.20pm,” he said. – Bernama
