(The Star) Group to build museum on Malaysian Chinese history

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) will be building the country’s first museum to showcase the history and lives of the Chinese community.

The “Malaysian Chinese Museum” is scheduled to open in May 2018, and will be located on the first floor of Wisma Huazong in Seri Kembangan. It will have about 12,000 display areas.

Huazong deputy president Datuk Cheng Lai Hock said it took the association about three years to plan, design and finalise the contents for the museum, a process which he said “cost a lot of money”.

“The museum will display artefacts and write-ups chronicling the history of Chinese immigrants to Malaysia and their integration into Malaysian society.

“We published a book half a year ago as a build-up to the museum. The 700-page book touches on Malaysian Chinese education, politics, culture, language and way of life. It also contains a lot of photographs.

“The book highlights the Malaysian Chinese community’s contribution to the country’s development and progress,” he told The Star yesterday.
