(The Star) B40 category to earn RM70mil by year-end

PETALING JAYA: Some 100,000 participants under the B40 category are expected to earn a collective income of RM70mil by year-end.

B40 refers to those earning a salary of RM3,855 and below.

Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation’s vice-president (corporate affairs division) Razaleigh Zainal said among measures taken to uplift the income of the B40 group was through the online #YOUCANDUIT programme.

“The programme targets those from lower income groups to help them generate income through a digital platform,” he said at the launch of the Selangor Youth Day celebrations here yesterday.

Those targeted for the eRezeki and eUsahawan programmes under #YOUCANDUIT are housewives, youths and students.

Last year, about 51,000 participants took part in microcredit ventures, in which 30% of them succeeded in generating additional income totalling RM48mil.

The eRezeki programme saw 23,000 participants generating additional collective income amounting to RM16.4mil.

Celebrity Datuk Rosyam Nor told youths that current business approaches had evolved via the use of digital platforms.

“With a digital platform, you can start a business and succeed anywhere,” he said.
