(The Edge) klia2 celebrates 88 million passenger movements since 2013

KUALA LUMPUR: klia2 has handled 88 million passenger movements at the terminal, comprising 30 million domestic and 58 million international passenger movements, since its opening on May 2, 2013, says Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

The terminal, said MAHB in a statement yesterday, has the capacity to handle 45 million passengers klia2 celebrates 88 million passenger movements since 2013 per annum and has been supporting the traffic growth of low-cost carriers steadily over the last three years.

“After its first year of operation in April 2015, klia2 recorded a total of 24 million passenger traffic movements. This growth escalated higher in 2016, which registered a 15% increase in its total number of passenger movements to 27.6 million from the previous year,” MAHB said.

In the first quarter of 2017, the terminal continued to post strong passenger traffic numbers by handling 7.1 million passengers, made up of 4.8 million international passengers and 2.3 million domestic ones.

In commemorating the third year of klia2 operations yesterday, a simple ceremony was held at the terminal, said MAHB, with MA Sepang Sdn Bhd’s acting general manager Arif Jaafar distributing the limited-edition klia2 medallion to three selected passengers.

In the past three years, klia has undergone a few improvement initiatives, including the installation of 25 more travelators, raising the total to 42, and the implementation of a 24-hour buggy service for greater convenience for passengers, added MAHB.

MAHB shares closed up 38 sen or 5% at RM7.98 yesterday, with a market capitalisation of RM13.24 billion.
