(NST) AirAsia carried 15.23 million passengers in 1Q17

KUALA LUMPUR: In its preliminary operating statistics report for 1Q17, AirAsia Bhd said the Group carried 15.23 million passengers and its fleet size is 176 aircraft-strong.

It said that the total number of passengers carried is an increase of 9 per cent, year-on-year.

AirAsia's Malaysian operations hit a load factor of 90 per cent in 1Q17, it added.

The company also reported that it increased the frequency of its Kuala Lumpur – Maldives, Kuala Lumpur – Penang, Johor Baru – Penang, Johor Baru – Kuala Lumpur, Kuching –Sibu, Kuching – Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu – Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu – Tawau routes.

The low-cost carrier also provided updates on its overseas units, namely Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, Philippines AirAsia, and AirAsia India.

Thai AirAsia carried 4.85 million passengers during the period, and it started operating two new domestic routes: Pattaya (Utapao) – Ubon Ratchathani and Pattaya (Utapao) – Phuket. It also increased frequency on the Bangkok (Don Mueang) – Mandalay route.

Indonesia AirAsia carried 1.53 million passengers and added new routes: Yogyakarta – Kuala Lumpur; Lombok - Kuala Lumpur and Pekanbaru - Kuala Lumpur.

Philippines AirAsia carried 1.15 million passengers and added two new routes: Manila – Caticlan and Kalibo – Clark, while increasing frequency for Manila – Macau.

Meanwhile, AirAsia India carried 840,000 passengers with three new routes added: Delhi - Srinagar; Delhi - Bagdogra and Delhi - Pune, while the frequency of the Delhi – Goa route was increased.
