(The Star) Agropolitan project in Perak revived

The Air Ganda agropolitan project in Hulu Perak would be revived after an eight-year delay.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the project could not start, among other reasons, because suitable land for the settlement could not be identified.
He said now that the Rural and Regional Development Ministry has identified a 1,011- ha land within the Lenggong and Grik constituency, the project is in the implementation stage.
“The settlement with basic amenities like houses, surau, kindergarten and shops will be set up for 400 hardcore poor families.
The ministry’s deputy secretary-general Datuk Dr Jailani Muhamed Yunus, together with his team, did a survey and forwarded the report to me,” he told reporters after the weekly state executive council meeting last week.
Dr Zambry said the plantation of rubber trees started some years back, which have since been cared for by Risda Plantation.
He said he had also ironed out several issues with the ministry, requesting them to ensure the paths of elephants are not affected with this development.
“I hope after this there will no longer be any delays, and that the project will take off as soon as possible,” said Dr Zambry.

He added that the project was similar to the Felda and Felcra settlement programme.
