(NST) 80 pct of PR1MA houses in Sg Petani, Kuala Ketil taken up

SUNGAI PETANI: The 1Malaysia Peoples' Housing (PR1MA) projects in Sungai Petani and Kuala Ketil have received favourable response from the middle-income earners group (M40) in Kedah, with 80 per cent of units booked to date.

Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Mutalib said the three projects, PR1MA Residensi Kuala Ketil with 323 units, PR1MA Residensi Sungai Petani 1 (1,349 units) and PR1MA Residensi Sungai Petani 2 (1,395 units) appeal to the M40 group whose monthly income ranges between RM2,500 and RM10,000.

The PR1MA houses are priced between RM100,000 and RM400,000, depending on product and location.

Abdul Mutalib said the overwhelming response was due to to scarcity of supply of suitable homes that fit the budget of the particular income group.

"The M40 group is very much under-served. They are not able to afford market homes but are not eligible to buy low-cost houses.

"That is why we are seeing favourable demand for our homes from this group.

"In addition to this, the rapid development in Kedah is also contributing to the growing number of the M40s in the state, hence resulting in the increase in demand for fairly priced market quality homes," he said in a press statement after a special "Meet and Greet" session by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to celebrate PR1MA's pioneer community in Kedah today.

PR1MA to date has a total of 24 approved projects throughout Kedah, comprising 22,169 units of homes.

The projects, which are in various stages of construction, are located in Alor Star, Sungai Petani, Baling, Jerlun, Kuala Kedah, Kubang Pasu, Kulim, Padang Serai, Padang Terap and Pokok Sena.

As of January 2017, PR1MA has a total of 231 approved projects, comprising 266,400 units of homes nationwide, with Kedah accounting for eight per cent of the total number of homes to be built by PR1MA.
