KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Corp-controlled QSR Brands (M) Holdings Sdn Bhd plans to open 20 KFC and five Pizza Hut restaurants in Singapore, India, Cambodia and Brunei this year.
Besides the expansion outside the country, QSR group managing director Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid said there were also plans to open 25 KFC and 45 Pizza Hut restaurants in Malaysia.
The company would allocate RM245mil for capital expenditure this year to build new outlets and for relocation and image enhancement, with RM180.5mil meant for the local market and the remainder for overseas operations, he said after Pizza Hut's Double Sensation Pizza launch.
To date, the company's foreign market businesses contribute some 25% to its total revenue.
QSR is the operator of Pizza Hut Malaysia and the franchisee for 690 KFC restaurants in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, India and Cambodia.
On the company's interest to venture into new markets this year, Zaki said: “This year, we are not looking to penetrate any new market. There is a lot of opportunity for us to grow in our existing markets.”
On the new Double Sensation Pizza, Zaki expects it to drive its total pizza sales to about 25% during the promotion period.
“We are spending RM1.5mil for advertising and promotion for this new pizza. It is an original creation of Pizza Hut Malaysia. We are very excited about it,” he said.
To reach a wider customer base, the company's advertising and promotion drive for the Double Sensation Pizza covers television, radio, print and social media.
The pizza is available at all Pizza Hut restaurants in the country from April 11 for a limited period.
On average, Zaki said the group introduced at least one pizza product every quarter. “We expect to introduce another two products this year,” he revealed.
He said the group was targeting RM4bil in revenue this year, which was RM400,000 higher than the RM3.6bil achieved of 2012.
